EDITOR'S NOTE: A surprisingly wide selection of modern and well-equipped accommodations in Grand Cayman cater to all budgets, ranging from luxury beachfront hotels to guest houses, condos and vacation villas for bargain hunters. So, if you just want to relax somewhere quiet and take the occasional cool dip in the sea or pool, you’ll have no difficulty in finding your little slice of paradise. Condos, beach resorts and luxury hotels can be found dotting the fabulous coastline along Seven Mile Beach. However, be prepared to pay a hefty premiumfor the fabulous views, pristine beach and creature comforts.Move away from Seven Mile Beach and the downtown area, and prices for accommodations get more reasonable, but considering you are never really far away from beaches or fabulous dining opportunities, being a few miles away from the George Town and West Bay Road scene is not a problem. Ritz-Carlton At the top end of the island experience has to be the recently-built Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman, offering luxury par excellence. It features 365 guestrooms, five restaurants, a tennis centre and a Greg Norman-designed nine hole golf course. Garden view rooms range from $349 a night in summer to $799 in winter. Opt for a three-bedroomed Reserve Oceanfront suite in the summer and it will set you back from $2,450 a night, rising to $4,400 in winter. The Westin Casuarina Resort and Spa Diners are treated to an excellent selection, with a selection of bars and cafes as well as the lovely Ferdinand’s restaurant where they serve one of the island’s best Sunday brunches which you will not want to miss. For sophisticated dining, Casa Havana’s four diamond restaurant blends Cuban and Caribbean cuisine in an elegant fusion. Room rates are quite reasonable, from around US$280 – US$500 for a double room in low season; US$400 to US$600 for the same in high season. Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort
This resort has undergone extensive refurbishment in recent years and offers guests a wonderfully tropical beach vacation right in the heart of Seven Mile Beach. Care has been taken over the décor to properly promote the Caribbean influence and service is always served with a smile and a friendly greeting. The resort’s La Mer Spa features YonKa therapy with a wide range of treatments on offer. The spa is a favourite among local residents as well as guests which goes to show how highly it is regarded. Diners are treated to some excellent Caribbean/international cuisine at Solana’s oceanfront restaurant. Enjoy a panoramic view of Cayman’s Seven Mile beach as the sun sets majestically over the horizon, while you sip your pre dinner cocktail. It really doesn’t get any better than this! Rates vary according to the room – expect to pay around US$400 for a standard double room in high season, rising to around US$1200 for the Presidential Suite. These rates drop to around US$200 a night in low season for a standard room, to just over US$1000 for the Presidential Suite. Comfort Suites Hotel
Just a mile or so along West Bay Road, and closer to George Town, is the excellent Comfort Suites and Resort offering rooms and apartments for the more budget conscious. You can eat at the laid-back Stingers bar and restaurant with the locals and hotel guests, cool off in the pool or stroll 100 yards or so to the beach. A bedroom for two to four people will cost you from $145 a night in summer (from $205 in winter) or a suite for two to six people costs from $175 a night in summer (from $235 to $335 in winter). Guests are also treated to a complimentary breakfast that’s included in the room rate, and a sizeable feast it is. This hotel is award winning and enjoys a high percentage of repeat customers in the main due to the friendly and helpful staff who always make an effort and ensure your stay is memorable. Grand Cayman Beach Suites
Another extremely well situated hotel is the Grand Cayman Beach Suites, which adeptly sums up what this hotel is all about – a collection of well appointed beach suites overlooking Grand Cayman’s Seven Mile Beach. They are set in lush surroundings overlooking a fantastic pool and Jacuzzi area right on the beach. There are a good selection of retail outlets on site with service desks to assist with scuba and snorkeling trips. The Hotel’s two main restaurants are Hemingways and Bamboo. The former is a colonial-type establishment with genteel service, great food (don’t miss their excellent breakfast buffets – the omelettes are to die for) and a perfect location with an outdoor patio overlooking the beach or indoors in the light and airy restaurant. Bamboo is a first class Asia-inspired dining experience where experts in the art roll sushi in front of guests, much to their delight. Also on site is a 4800-square-foot health club which overlooks the pools on the beach. Prices are on the higher end of the scale – around US$675 for a beach view suite, rising to US$2,425 for a tw0-bed ocean front suite in high season. These reduce down to US$450 and US$1200 respectively during low season. Sunshine Suites
Perfectly located for a quiet vacation, just on the other side of West Bay Road and a short walking distance from Seven Mile Beach, this collection of suites is well priced and well suited to guests looking for a relaxed vacation away from it all, with prices running affordably from around US$250 in high season to around US$200 in low season. All rooms offer full kitchens with cook top, toaster, microwave, full size refrigerator, complete cookware and dishes and guests can also enjoy a full complimentary breakfast daily by the pool.
